I don't think your problem was with the jaws window.  Did you do an insert+t
to see what window was in focus?
I alt+tab and alt+shift+tab through the jaws window many times a day.
Sometimes that's just a good way to get from point x to point y.  I've never
had the kind of problem you describe.
Did you press the windows logo key, or control+escape?  This should have
taken you to the start menu.  You could then escape from that, and press tab
to your taskbar.
