Dear Friends,

*Johar!*

A group of journalist and writers, who happen to be all Adivasis, have
recently challenged the Catholic Church institutions here in Jharkhand for
acting as ancillaries to Corporations.

Through a press conference here in Ranchi on 20th April they have given an
ultimatum to the Don Bosco Fathers to pull-out of a project to train
Adivasis in technical skills as the training was being funded by Arcelor
Mittal, the world's biggest steel manufacturer.

The Corporation is desperate to get the lands of the Adivasis to build their
Steel Plant, and are using all means to browbeat the land owners. Well
organised and militant they have resisted the entry of the Company.

This is not the first instance of Church - Corporate bon homme. XLRI in
Jamshedpur, XISS in Ranchi for decades have been serving as ancilaries to
the Corporate world. Corporates including the World Bank hire these
institutions to conduct 'displacement' surveys, produce reports, train
personnel etc.
