Bt Cotton - Vidarabh Marginal Success – Punjab 100% Success
You will be surprised to discover that Extensive Trials of Bt Cotton are carried out in all Cotton growing areas of India in view of its economic importance as Cotton Textiles is the largest Industry and employer in India. http://www.cicr.org.in/btcottonevaluation.htm http://www.envfor.nic.in/divisions/csurv/geac/ICAR_South%20Zone%202008-09.pdf We expect people like Devinder Sharma to get involved in these trials and see to it that trials are conducted properly and then communicate the findings HONESTLY. It will shock you to learn that Devinder Sharma was telling all lies. Surely he never read these reports which actually mirror the results farmers get. Bt Cotton is resounding success in Punjab. In North Zone report you will find in Punjab’s main cotton growing area Ball Worm were completely absent on Bt crops but in Vidarbha Bt Cotton too was affected by Ball Worm. More importantly Report also Contradicts regular lies that Bt Cotton harms Predators but Predator Population in Bt Cotton in Punjab too was 2-4 times more than Vidarabh. THESE POSITIVELY ESTABLISH SPURIOUS IN USE IN VIDARABH AS ALSO HIGH SPRAYING REQUIRED FOR BALL WORM INSPITE OF BT SEEDS. North Zone Trials http://www.envfor.nic.in/divisions/csurv/geac/ICAR-Bt%20Trial%20Report%20-%20North%20Zone%20-%202008-09.pdf Lint yield [The lint yield also followed more or less the same trend as that of seed cotton yield. RCH 134 Bt with a mean lint yield of 1012 kg/ha was the best check hybrid (Table 7). For lint yield also, the test hybrid BCHH 6488 BG II was the best recording 1194 kg/ha with 18 % increase over RCH 134 BG I and 32 % increase over RCH 134 BG II. However, only two other hybrids were found superior to the best Bt check hybrid viz., KDCHH 516 BG II and SP 7017 B2.] You will find even the worst Lint Yield in Punjab is 523 kg better than some of best yields of irrigated Bt cotton varieties of central zone. Best Lint yield in Bhatinda is 1573 kg – 10 times average yield in Vidharbha. Best mean yield for North Zone for Bt Hybrids is 1194 kg and non Bt yields are 611kg and 603 kg. Plant protection measures [There was not much variation between Bt hybrids and non Bt checks in terms of requirements for number of sprays for sucking pests but there was notable difference observed for spray against bollworms. While the Bt entries did not cross ETL warranting pesticide spray, the non Bt checks crossed ETL for bollworms at least four times and needed pesticide spray.] It amazing no pesticide spray for Bt Cotton for Ball Worm was required and since most of the non Bt Crops too required just 4 sprays. South Zone too is also getting Satisfactory results. http://www.envfor.nic.in/divisions/csurv/geac/ICAR_Central%20Zone-2008-09.pdf CENTRAL ZONE or Vidarabh Here in I found in Central Zone trials out of six four rain fed trials were carried out in Vidarabh region – Akola, Yavatmal, Nanded and Nagpur. INTERSPECIFIC BT COTTON HYBRID TRIALS (2008 - 09) As regards seed cotton yield is concerned, it was seen that all the test hybrids, except MLBCH 6 BG II exhibited higher seed cotton yield, with increase ranging from 17 to 77 % over non‐Bt check hybrid DCH 32, while none of them was found superior to Bt check hybrid MRC 6918 Bt. (Table 80). The lint yield also followed a near similar trend, with only PRCHB having higher lint yield over MRC 6918 by 11% (Table 81). These trials were conducted in Indore and Banswara not highly productive regions. On page 63 you can see that DCH 32 non Bt Hybrid commonly grown all over India was second lowest in Lint Cotton Yield at just 273 kg, while best mean yield was 518 kg or 90% more than non Bt. I picked up non Bt check seed Ankur 651 because it was there in every trial with Bt, non Bt and Irrigated and un-irrigated conditions. In Irrigated Set A trials Ankur 651 yielded 550 kg Lint cotton. Best Bt Cotton mean yield was 754 kg and worst 273 kg. Page 13 In irrigated Set B trials Ankur 651 yielded 451 kg Lint Cotton. Best Bt Cotton mean yield was 714 kg or 58% more and worst 273 kg. P-26 In Rainfed Set A trials Ankur 651 yielded was 331 kg of Lint Cotton but in Nanded its yield was just 98 kg, in Yavatmal it was 203 kg, Ankola 265 kg and Nagpur recorded highest 573 kg. Best Bt Cotton mean yield was 507 kg and lowest 213 kg. P-39. In Rainfed Set B trials Ankur 651 yielded was 402 kg of Lint Cotton but in Nanded yield was just 127 kg, in Yavatmal it was 252 kg and Nagpur recorded highest 666 kg. Best Bt Cotton mean yield was 552 kg and lowest 253 kg. P-52 Ravinder Singh January21, 2010
