You should add this to the Jira issue tracking, with details on your binding definition and the actual class definition. I'd help a lot if you can narrow this down, but if you attach the modified com.actualis.sage.DocumentVte class file I'll see if I can spot the bad cast.

To answer your question about arbitrary object types, JiBX should serialize them using toString() and deserialize them using the constructor that takes a String parameter.
