My jibx target depends on a build target, so the compiled classes should be
available at this point. I have no idea what's going wrong here.

What you need to provide the CompileTask as a classpath instead of
${application.dir} is the root folder of where your compiled class files
are. The JiBX binding compiler will make modifications directly to your
class files.
