I was assuming that error was because of a bad mapping...
It is not.
I'm using the binding classes at Runtime feature and it specifically
states:
"At present, runtime binding only works with classes that are present in
the classpath as individual class files (not in jars). "
This was my issue. All set now.

you can try to define the inner classes as separate mappings, and then
refer
to them using <structure map-as="..."/> .. also I think you should use
