Yes, that was exactly the approach I thought about - and which I was
avoiding because it involves "polluting" my domain objects with an
iterator-metod + another property (the List<Wrapper>.

The only alternative to this was to marshall the document with an empty
<team/> field and add it afterwards (even though there isn't a post-get
method hook).

What would be *really* good though was to make a syntax like
field="../name"  work, but I haven't figured out what changes are needed
for this.
