Note that there is 
[std::minmax|https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/algorithm/minmax] and 
[std::minmax_element|https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/algorithm/minmax_element]
 in the C++ algorithm library which supports lists and iterators.
