   the value version only distinguishes the version of the value record.
   
   the key's version is also the key's record type (OffsetCommitKey == 0/1, 
GroupMetadataKey == 2, ...) 
   
   whereas the value version is the version of the value record 
(OffsetCommitValue versions 0,1,2,...)
