The AsyncKafkaConsumer might throw an IllegalStateException during the
initialization of a new fetch. The exception is caused by
the partition being unassigned by the background thread before
the subscription state is accessed during initialisation.
This commit avoids the IllegalStateException by verifying that the partition
was not unassigned each time the subscription state is accessed.
