Yes, I think so. If you want to add a new SMT or add configuration properties to an existing SMT which is part of Apache Kafka, I think you'll need a KIP. It wouldn't be much work. If you look at the list of KIPs (https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/Kafka+Improvement+Proposals), you'll see that there have been about 10 related to SMTs. For example, this one (https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/KIP-808%3A+Add+support+for+different+unix+precisions+in+TimestampConverter+SMT) adds a configuration property. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
