   After thinking about it, I’m not in favor of encapsulating consumer 
reference within a thread class to avoid two lists in `BackgroundConsumerSet`. 
If we did so, we would have to pass some `BackgroundConsumerSet` variables 
(e.g., startLatch/stopLatch) to the thread class, which seems too complicate to 
me. Keeping two list in BackgroundConsumerSet should be clear enought here. 
Please let me know if I have any misunderstanding.
