Review Comment:
   Diving into the code, I think `fetch.max.wait = 0` might not be effective. 
Since the closing fetch request is responded to immediately (it just removes 
the session and has no partitions, so there’s no iteration), it doesn't wait 
for the `fetch.max.wait`. Given that, the 500ms wait logic is likely due to a 
previous pending fetch request.
