The partition-expansion guidance currently states that a `by_duration` lookup returns the log start offset when the target timestamp precedes the partition's creation time. However, the lookup uses record timestamps rather than partition creation time. With `CreateTime`, newly appended records can carry older timestamps and may be skipped. Update the ConsumerConfig documentation and the operations guide to: - Describe `by_duration` as reducing the risk of skipped records, without guaranteeing that all records in a new partition will be consumed. - Account for record timestamp lag and discovery/assignment delays when choosing a duration. - Clarify timestamp sources, replay implications, and when `earliest` is appropriate. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
