ASF GitHub Bot commented on KAFKA-9528:
---------------------------------------

Autumn2OO5 opened a new pull request, #923:
URL: https://github.com/apache/kafka-site/pull/923

   Fixes the accessibility issues still flagged on the homepage
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-9528). Most of the 2020 findings
(lang attribute, user-scalable=no, main landmark, h1) were already fixed by the
Hugo/Docsy migration; this addresses what remains.

   Changes:
   - content/en/_index.md: add alt="Apache Kafka" to the hero logo image.
   - assets/scss/_variables_project.scss (footer only):
   - Copyright text, copyright links and footer links: #6c757d -> #ced4da
(2.2:1 -> ~7:1 on the #403f4c footer; WCAG AA requires 4.5:1).
   - Link hover color: #6c757d -> #fff, so links stay readable on hover (WCAG
1.4.3 also applies to hover states, which automated tools don't test).
   - Social icons: #6c757d -> #ced4da, hover #212529 -> #fff. axe doesn't check
icon-font glyphs, but they were 2.2:1, below the 3:1 that WCAG 1.4.11 requires
for non-text elements.

   The hover and icon changes go beyond what the automated audit flags; they
are included so the footer meets WCAG in practice, not just on the audit.

   Testing: built the site with the project's Hugo Docker image, served it
locally and ran Lighthouse 12 (accessibility) on the homepage. Score went from
87 to 98; the only remaining failure is heading-order, which comes from Docsy's
blocks/feature shortcode and is left for a follow-up.

   This contribution is our original work, and we license it to the project
under the project's open source license.

> If we analyse the website with some accessibility tools like Google Chrome
> Audit for Accessibility, aXe or aXe Pro, the reports that the tools create
> shows several flaws regarding accessibility.
>
> Therefore, the website should comply with all the accessibility standards and
> best practices to ensure that anyone can access the content of Kafka
> regardless the capabilities of each individual
