When a static Streams member rejoins with a new member ID and a different process ID, inheriting its current assignment can create duplicate task ownership on the new process. Subsequent revocation can lose ownership tracking and allow premature assignment, as described in KAFKA-21401. This change resets the member’s current assignment and reconciliation state while preserving its metadata and inheriting its target assignment through the existing static replacement path. The process ID change still bumps the group epoch and triggers target assignment recomputation, subject to the configured assignment interval. Starting with an empty current assignment ensures that tasks pass ownership checks during reconciliation, preventing different members on the same process from owning the same task. Endpoint changes are also compared against the previous member so peers are notified when its advertised tasks change. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
