Resolved - my fault again :-(

I had my machine (delboy) aliased to localhost in my local hosts file.
This broke RMI on a remote host as it was trying to reply via 127.0.0.1

That doesn't sound good.  Particularly since, me having only one computer - that's 
how I test the remote features.  Let me know what you find out.
