yeah, this could be improved.  I've pretty much switched to using user-defined 
variables for all my universal values, as that's so much simpler, I think.  However, 
that wouldn't be useful for the HTTP/HTTPS switch, unless that field was made into 
a text field, which wouldn't be very nice.
