-H and -P should be OK with or without the spaces - not sure why you are seeing
this behaviour, as these options should behave the same as -t, which does allow
a space.

Did you use any other parameters before the -H and -P?
[Perhaps the CLI parser got confused]

As far as I can see, the -H and -P options are merely used to set the system
properties htts[s].proxy[Port|Host]

So any "intelligent" proxy behaviour is presumably a feature of the http
implementation - which I suppose may vary between suppliers.

The server uses the default protocol handler from the Java installation.
