Hello,

My name is Rudolf and I am an experienced System architect and
tester.

Few months ago I need a test tool for distributed testing. I find
Jmeter as one of options. When I present Jmeter to my boss he was
disappointed, because he don?t understand RunningIndicator and
after Graph was rewritten with new data after some thousands
samples he said that Jmeter is not REALLY finish and is unusable.
So we bought some commercial test tool for $1000. It lacks of 50%
Jmeter functionally, but it have a button menu and graphs which
can be showed to client :-)

There may by many not testing engine and modiles related tasks
and fixes to program. Like Button menu or universal graph, XML
reporting with XSLT samples to create nice report and so on. We
can attract Java programmers to help us with Jmeter if they can
easy understand what we need.

I think then we need to spend some time on this 4 goals:
1. Easily install Jmeter for devepopment
2. Have page with actual Jmeter concept
3. Have a actual public list what TO DO with technical info (To
add Apache Web server monitoring :-) 4. Have a mechanism to add
task there and to pick up them.

It can make Jmeter development much faster in future.

I din´d find anywhere then Jmeter 2.x is maintaned Java 1.3
compatible, but run on 1.4 and 1.5 without no problem. Most
people will run on 1.5 because is faster and have auto memory
optimisation.

Let for now to concentrate on task 1:
Easily install Jmeter for devepopment
------------------------------------------------------------
I have recent experience with WiKi jmeter + Eclipse, so as I
found there are this problems:

1. Need pictures (or text from pictures what to fill to cvs)
CVS icon is not in menu, but on right.

If you have slow connection you can edit CVS properties:
- Increase timeout
- Make compression higher (?9)

2. Is absolutely essential to Checkout as Java project (stress
it)

3. There is not mentioned, then some of Jars like for MAIL are
missing. I don?t know why (licence, versions ???)
Put here link to eclipse.readme or content of this file.

Show how to add this Jars to eclipse (I edit files manually)

4. Java 1.5 related
I have Eclipse on windows and after I install JDK1.5 SE, it use
JRE 1.5 by default ??? Need to be changed into properties to JDK
1.5 otherwise ant will not work. Cand find Javac even when I have
right PATH and CLASS. Jmeter use now some Jar from J2EE 1.4,
there is not J2EE for 1.5. So Jmeter can't be compiled from
Eclipse without ANT conditional compiling.

So why to do not leave there only ANT compiling in docs and make
live much easier in future ?

Have a nice day
