ASF code can have at most an optional dependency on code released under the LGPL v2.1 license; the status of LGPL v3 code has not yet been determined. It may therefore be necessary to provide the formatting as an optional plugin, with at least some parts of the code hosted elsewhere. Perhaps it makes sense to consider enhancing the Tree View Listener to allow arbitrary external plugin renderers?
