Hi Bill, I had exactly the same problems when I the unstable 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 versions. I am running Suse 8.0 and J2SDK-1.4. I don't know why it does not work, but I took the latest version (nightly: 2002-08-12) and compiled it (run sh build.sh). This time /bin/jmeter runs without problems...
