Without some kind of hardware on the network level it's going to be hard to figure out what's going on there.
But depending on what sortof machines you have to play with you might want to check out mrtg. It can be found here : www.mrtg.org It's relatively useful for low granularity reporting, but if you have a particular issue with a particular machine and need real-time analaysis you might want to check out ethereal aswell. http://www.ethereal.com/ Steve. -----Original Message----- From: Casadonte, Joe [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 30, 2003 10:55 AM To: 'JMeter Users List' Subject: [Slightly OT] Network Health First off, thanks to everyone for their help last week with my quest for Bandwidth Throttling software. I'm evaluating some packages and will report the results back to the list. Now to this week's question: I'm finding myself more and more in the role of evaluating the health of our client's networks, and I'm somewhat at a loss to do so. I'm not a network engineer (nor do I play one on TV), and I don't own a sniffer. Does anyone have any ideas for measuring the health of a network. I'm looking for something portable, cross-platform, and that doesn't rely on 'ping' or ICMP, as that is often blocked by firewalls. Things I'm interested in are: latency, packet loss, collisions, bandwidth availability, plus whatever else there is that I just don't know about. Thanks once again for your help! -- Regards, joe Joe Casadonte Global Logistics Technologies, Inc.
