One reason these things are "hard to find" is because JMeter has been designed to 
allow 
developers to write tiny little components that sit out there waiting to be put to use 
in any 
combination a user might think of.  All the controllers can be nested and combined for 
different effect.  Likewise, the functions, modifiers and the like can join in the fun 
(and 
confusion).  It really wouldn't be possible to list all the potentially useful 
combinations.  

But there also needs to be far more written about some good examples in an attempt to 
communicate to users the nature of the possibilities.
