I'm not sure if there is a native way of doing this but I did this by 
writing a customer java sampler. I defined a Java Sampler that could 
take three parameters and displayed their values to the Response Data.

At each point that I wanted to know the value of a variable, then I 
put this sampler in with a View Results Tree listener.
