that question doesn't really have a universal answer. The baseline like all scientific experiment is simply a point of reference. Therefore, a baseline is only as useful as the definition. If you've defined your baseline as the acceptable performance, then all subsequent stress tests can measure up to it. On the other hand, that is just one way of defining it. Say you want to beat your competitors. In that case, you might define the baseline using published results of their system. I generally find out what the acceptable performance is and set that as the baseline. This way, that tells me when a new release is bad. I hope that helps. peter
