It is time-based - it is assumed that the human user will be slower than JMeter and the web-server.
The details of how to change the time are in the jmeter.properties file. So just set the time longer, and make sure you leave a big enough gap between clicking links in the browser. What constitutes a group? Is it simply time-based (everything executed within N ms is considered one group), or is it something else? If it's time-based, is there anyway to control the value of N? What I'm finding is that it's creating 2 or 3 groups where I only want 1. JMeter version 2.0.0 if it matters.
