I'm guessing, but I suspect the error in the log file occurs *after* the viewstate problem was reported, and is probably caused by the server disconnecting.
Presumably the server does not report this problem when connecting directly to the browser? Does it happen on all pages? Does it happen with other browsers, whether directly connected or via the proxy? Without some more information as to what causes the server to report the viewstate error, it is difficult to know what the problem is.
