Is __javaScript function or __BeanShell function better?

Dear JMeter Users and Developers:

Is it better to use the __javaScript function (which uses JavaScript) or the 
__BeanShell function (which uses Java)? Is one function faster than the other? What 
should a JMeter user consider in deciding to use __javaScript or __BeanShell to do 
something?

I do not know JavaScript or Java, and have no preference for either language.
