As Mike says - restrictive is good. 
One could also (normally) say - greedy is bad.

Use the ? qualifier to stop the match being greedy.

For example:
<NewId>(.*?)</NewIdt>

Or perhaps
<NewId>(.+?)</NewIdt>
if you don't want to match

<NewId></NewIdt>
