How does one know when a system has reached its capacity?

For example, when I set the number of users high enough, a large portion of the
testresults in the simple data writer come back as:
response message="Non HTTP response message"
response code="Non HTTP response code"
success="false"

1. Does that mean capacity has been reached - or is that something else?

2. Also, where can I get information (or can anyone provide) on a convenient
way to graph my results with regards to capacity and the number where the
system "craps out."? Most of the listener results are not very clear/pretty
as-is.

I would really appreciate your help, as I am new to all of this field.

Thanks.
