It's difficult to be sure why the time differences are as shown
without the timestamps.

The reports are supposed to be generated every N seconds on the
N-second boundary, so the first report is normally generated after
fewer than N seconds have elapsed.

Likewise, the last report is generated at the end of the run, which
may not be a multiple of N seconds.
