Hello all,

Just wanted to give you some progress on this (see below). I managed
today to build my first JMeter-Knoppix! It's still pretty raw but it's
evolving or should I say I'm learning. Anyway what I've got so far is a
Knoppix 5.1.1 with a running JMeter. What I'll still need to do is the
automatic boot-up of JMeter-server and the immediate ssh and VNC on
boot. Then some design stuff and it's ready to go.

The idea I'm following is to produce a JMeter bootable Linux so that I
don't have to install machines when I need more servers to generate
load. I just want to pop-in the CD and boot. Put the IP into the main
JMeter machine (will this be possible in the client some time in the
future?! And the switching from standard to batch to... too?). But the
CD can be used as a main JMeter machine too. Just use an additional USB
drive or external HDD and away you go. The nice thing is here that the
physical hard drives stay untouched. So you can use your bosses machine
as a load driver and not get caught ;-)

The current versions are: nightly build of JMeter 2.2 from end of Feb
and Java 1.5.0_10.

As soon as I get to something I can call version 0.1 I'll be happy to
share the ISO. ....if I find someone that's willing to host an ISO and I
don't get any legal/GPL problems.

@Sebb: Can you send me that link to the nightly builds again?

@all: If you're interested in something like this let me know. If you
have any additional ideas let me know too. Send email to
JMeter(at)erlewein.net please. Oh and.... if somebody has a cool name
for this....

Cheers Oliver

Subject: Boot CD with JMeter?

Hi all,

I wondered whether somebody out there has a Linux JMeter Boot CD that
he/she might share?! What I mean is a bootable Linux (Knoppix or
something like it) which is customised to be a JMeter client/server. If
not I'll probably try and do something like that over the next weeks
(months?!).

Oh and why would I need it?!
Because then I could use PC's as load drivers that do not have to be
dedicated machines. It also makes the whole setup easier.

Regards Oliver
