And you were right... :-) After I tried this, I found the variable interpolation done outside JMeter didn't quite cut it and I need JMeter variable support... I've opened a Bugzilla enhancement request for this issue: https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44632 For the time being I plan to submit the FTP upload data to a service in an external application via an SOAP/XML-RPC sampler (which will do the variable interpolation) and have that application do the FTP upload.
