its really java's implementation, nothing specific to Jmeter . So things you
could try
a. Is the https port specified correctly?
b. Is the certificate correct (if you directly type the url in the browser
do you get any certificate warnings)
c. Can you change the sampler to use HTTPClient HttpSampler? .
d. Upgrade to Jmeter 2.3.4
