You could also read "Emily H. Halili - Apache JMeter", but you should know that it has only a little more form the usermanual ( http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/usermanual/index.html), but it is more "user friendly", explains things in the logical order.
I've read it after going through various materials on the web and didn't find it added anything NEW to the table, at the time, it might be more useful though as a start point...
