Here's a shopping list:
- a rule-based architecture. We don't have one. I don't think we want to bundle Prolog into the system. Are there alternatives?
People I know who are rules experts think highly of JESS,
which is a rules engine written entirely in Java with a Lisp like syntax that can
be incorporated into other Java programs, see http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess/ .
It is not open source, but licensing is free to academics.
