This is now fixed in the jmol cvs HEAD.
The rule is as follows:
If there is a model name in the file then the model name is displayed.
(Currently the io readers do not support model names, so this is never
displayed.)
Failing that, the file name of the file or url is displayed.

Also fixed in jmol cvs HEAD.
If the model doesn't load then the display window is cleared.

In addition, when a molecule does not load then a dialog box appears which
contains the text describing why the model did not load.

Recent files is also now working in cvs HEAD.

I made a point of saying that these things are working in cvs HEAD. They
are *not* fixed in the b6 branch. I have done a lot of restructuring in
the HEAD and I don't know how easy it would be to transfer these changes
to the b6 branch.
