That would be great!

Basically ... the latter.

The Jmol project has been around a few years. In the past there were other
people who worked on it. Currently Egon and I are the main developers. We
occasionally get assistance from others, especially in foreign language
translations. We are always looking for other developers.

Jmol version 10 is a complete rewrite, explicitly designed to be a
replacement for RasMol/Chime. I have been making pre-releases since last
fall. There are a handful of serious users who have helped out
tremendously by providing valuable feedback and suggestions. They are also
called upon to give me some tutoring ... I am not a chemist.

There are a few other people out there who have taken the Jmol code and
made 'personal' modifications to it. The core 'viewer' code is very easy
to integrate into a larger Java application. But I do not believe that
there are any other public lines of development based upon the Jmol
source.

You could help out tremendously by being an active user. The primary area
that needs attention is the mechanism for integration with web pages. So,
what we really need right now is people who can build serious web
applications (or port existing web applications from Chime to Jmol).
