I looked at the code and do not see anything wrong.

But I have a pretty good theory ... the results are getting messed up by
perspective depth.

Turn off perspective depth using either the menu or the script command and
I bet (at least I hope) that things will scale linearly with your test
program.

I built a very simple test locally and it looks OK to me.
