I just checked in code to fix this bug. This bug was caused by allowing polymer chains of length 1 ... I need everyone to be on the lookout for additional bugs caused by polymer chains of length 1. When I implemented all of the polymer code I assumed that a polymer was two or more monomers. We subsequently changed this to allow monomers to exist as part of the polymer data structures. However, there may be other cases where I assumed that the length would be 2 or more. So please be aware of this and let me know if you encounter additional problems.
