This subject has come up several times over the years ...

Jmol currently defines the default center of rotation to be the 'average'
point ... also known as the 'unweighted center of gravity'.

Chime/RasMol define the default center of rotation to be the center of the
boundbox ... where the boundbox dimensions are defined by the min/max
coordinate values along the x/y/z axes.

This is causing a bit of a problem.

I have created some script commands that allow one to choose whether they
want the center of rotation to be the 'average' or the 'boundbox'

I am seriously considering changing Jmol's default center of rotation to
be the center of the boundbox rather than the average.

However, this change would have an impact on Jmol scripts that have been
developed using 'show orientation' and 'moveTo'.

In most cases, the center of the boundbox and the average point are quite
close. Therefore, in most cases the impact will be negligible.

Q: What are people's thoughts on 'average' versus 'center of boundbox' ?

Q: What are people's thoughts on changing the Jmol default to be
RasMol/Chime compatible?
