Yes, that's what it does. We're OK there.

color cartoon cpk
# use the active (modified) scheme color for carbon
color cartoon none
# use the atom color of the *.CA at any moment

AH! No kidding. OK I get it. That example was just what I needed.
Alright, I need to figure out how to say that....

Wouldn't the following be clearer in terms of understanding the script?

 color cartoon default
 # use the active (modified) scheme color for carbon
 color cartoon inherit
 # use the atom color of the *.CA at any moment

default is to ambiguous, what default? default structure colors? may be element could replace cpk.

Default is not ambiguous. It means "when the model loads"

I'm used to none from RasMol and none is clear, I don't see any need to change this.

As far as I'm concerned, we can leave NONE there for you. I'd just rather not document it. You might check the note at

http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/docs/color.htm#none

It's hard to reconcile having four different meanings for "NONE".
This has been a TOTAL headache for me.

OK, I've updated the documentation.

http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/docs/#.color

why is LABEL not with the *[atom-associated-object] ?
*Regards, Jan

because it didn't behave that way;
it does now with 10.00.39, and LABEL has been moved to where you suggest.
