Summary: Selection halos are hidden by planes

Initial Comment:
When displaying a collapsed tetraedron around an atom, the selection halos are 
not displayed properly : they are just semi-spheres that can be totally hiddent 
if the faces of the collapsed tetraedron are all three in front of the z plane 
intersecting the atom.

that's correct. A halo is a 2-dimensional object in the z-plane of the
atom. You could make it larger or perhaps use a level of translucency on
the polyhedra. In general, though, these may not be compatible.
