G'day,
I like
set picking distance
... especially the console feedback and would argue to add this console feedback to double ... double picking mode, too.
I agree.
May be, adding transient (as in RasMol) graphic measurement output on single click picking after
set picking distance
by default, would make it more intuitive for the applet people without console,
I especially agree - this is what I'm proposing (for angle & torsion too).
alternatively set picking monitor could be made the default
set picking distance
set picking monitor
(so, I think what Chris wanted is implemented, but not visible for the user in hurry)
I wasn't even aware of "set picking monitor" (talk about the blind leading the blind - I remain at newbie status).
This would go some way to achieving what I'm proposing. However
1. it only renders the final distance measurement, not the transient measurement that you get in "double-click" mode
2. "set picking angle ; set picking monitor" and
"set picking torsion ; set picking monitor"
don't appear to work - you always get distance measurements.
3. as this is aimed at beginners a "Picking" sub-menu of the pop-up menu would be needed so the user doesn't have to bring up the console and execute "set picking...".
>Q: Chris, how did you propose that we get into this mode ... and out of it?
>
on by
set picking [distance|angle|torsion]
off by any set picking but [distance|angle|torsion|monitor]
That's correct.
Thanks, Chris.
