I spent a few minutes looking at the PDB spec but could not find the answers to the following questions:
Q:Do 'atom serial numbers' always start with 1? Q:Do they always increment by 1? Q:Independent of the spec, are there tools that generate .pdb files that do not increase sequentially starting at 1? Q:Do people have expectations that they can go into a .pdb file, delete a few unwanted atoms, and expect it to work?
