What does hoh42:z mean?

The : character is not a valid atom expression character in Jmol.

I could not find any reference to it in either RasMol 2.6 nor RasMol 2.7
documentation.

http://www.openrasmol.org/doc/rasmol.html#primitiveexpressions
For example, "*SER70A*" for the alphabetic chain identifier, "A", or "*SER70:1*" for the numeric chain identifier, "1".
RasMol2.7.2 accepts : as token for a chain identifier, whether it is a digit or not, which makes sense for me:

but actually I use [HOH]42Z in the script, which should work, but failed, too

from the 1gzx atom records:

HETATM 4751 O HOH Z 42

it looks like something (in your cgi script, Jan?) is trying to access chain
Z (all waters) via the supported but undocumented colon syntax for chains.
you remeber, our old friend from months ago ;-)

just an other documentation link:

Regards, Jan

P.S. about opener.method: I was not able to define a JavaScript function in a window I opened and wrote by a JavaScript, and I only ask ... if there is a Java-JavaScript guru listening ...

P.P.S. -nodisplay e.g. for batch image generation (is *not important*, but I use RasMol not only for image generation but various calculations in batch mode)
