To the best of my knowledge, you are 'condemned' to a web browser. One other person asked me this a couple of months ago. I will do a little investigation to see if there is a better solution. It should be possible (and ... it seems to me ... not too difficult) for someone to build a generic ActiveX/OLE control for Windows that would allow one to embed any arbitrary applet within MS Office applications.
