Found almost the same: on OSX 10.3.6 and Firefox 1.0 (latest release) the applet display fine and I can rotate the structure (still the image blanks while moving the browser window or scrolling the page). Any other operation, either via the Jmol menu or javascript calls makes the browser to crash.
