A couple of further notes about order-independent tutorial buttons.
1. Regarding Chime's default of not actually reloading the coordinates when it receives a "load" command for the same file already loaded, there is also a command "set load check false" to force every load command to be obeyed. See
http://www.mdl.com/support/developer/chime/developer_tools/chimerasmol.jsp#set_load_check
2. Chime commands exist to facilitate various tutorial script designs including making images independent of the order in which buttons are pressed. These are an alternative to the strategy I already described of loading the molecule at the beginning of each button script. The commands I refer to are
view save [#] view restore [#]
# is 0 by default, or can be specified 0-15, enabling the saving of 16 different views concurrently.
The orientation, translation, zoom, slabbing and center of rotation are saved or restored.
(These "views" do not include colors or renderings/displays).

3. I'd like to remind everyone that I've tried to make a comprehensive list of links to all Chime command language reference resources at the bottom of the MolviZ.Org main page under "About MDL Chime".
